Through their initiative “Sonepaws for the Cause,” the Sonepar Ontario Region (BlueWay, Dixon Electric, Gescan Automation, MGM Electric, Sesco and Texcan) raised $21,375 in donations for Humane Societies, Animal Rescues and Shelters across Ontario. The initiative began in February of last year and with the help of their associates and a few vendors, they were able to conduct five fundraisers, four internal and one external, throughout the year.
There was no obligation for branches to participate in the initiative but every branch within the Ontario Region did. Even when times were uncertain, the team participated with enthusiasm and generosity. Eighty per cent of the funding was raised from associates and the remaining 20 per cent was raised from a customer draw. The Ontario region then matched all funds raised which generated a grand total of $21,375.
Since animals are in need everywhere the total raised was divided equally by the number of branches within the Ontario Region. This allowed separate donations of $1,125 to 19 local Humane Societies, Rescues & Shelters in the communities where their branches are located.
“Animals are in need because of Humans. It is our responsibility to watch out for them and do what we can because they can’t help themselves. Humane Societies, Rescues & Shelters are full of wonderful people doing their best to care for animals – some taken from deplorable conditions. We wanted to help.” stated Sandra McClelland, Sonepar Ontario Region’s VP of Operations.
